Why it matters

Why car warranty insurance matters

  • Standard car insurance covers accidents and theft, not parts that simply fail with age or use.
  • A single engine or gearbox repair can run into tens of thousands of rand out of pocket.
  • Cover is especially useful once your factory warranty ends or on higher-mileage vehicles.
  • Predictable monthly cover helps you budget instead of facing a sudden, large repair bill.
  • Many plans let you use an approved workshop of your choice for repairs.

FAQ

Car warranty insurance questions

Is this the same as car insurance?
No. Car insurance covers accidents, theft and third-party liability, while car warranty insurance covers mechanical and electrical breakdowns from wear and failure. Many drivers hold both, so that sudden repairs and accident damage are each taken care of.
Does it cover normal wear-and-tear items?
Usually not. Service items like brake pads, tyres, clutches and wiper blades are generally excluded, as is routine servicing. Warranty cover focuses on unexpected failures of major listed components. Always check the plan's list of covered parts before you buy.
Can I get cover on an older or high-mileage car?
Often yes, though limits and premiums vary with the car's age and mileage. Some providers set an upper age or kilometre cap. It's worth comparing a few options, as cover on an older car can still save you from a large repair bill.
Will I be locked into one workshop?
Many warranty plans let you use an approved repairer or your preferred workshop, subject to authorisation before work starts. Getting the repair approved first keeps your claim valid. Check each plan's rules on workshops and approvals when you compare quotes.
