Retail value

Last reviewed 25 July 2026 · by the Savvy Insurance editorial team

What is retail value?

Retail value is roughly what a dealer would sell your car for. It is usually higher than market value. Some insurers let you insure at retail value for a higher premium.

Example

Insuring at retail value means a larger payout if your car is written off, but a higher monthly premium.
