Why it matters
Why tablet insurance matters
- Tablets are slim, portable and an easy target for theft in public places.
- Standard home contents cover usually won't help once the tablet leaves your home.
- Cracked screens and liquid damage are common and often costly to repair.
- Replacing a premium tablet out of pocket can run to many thousands of rand.
- Cover follows the device to class, meetings, coffee shops and trips.

Tablet insurance questions
Can I insure my tablet with my phone or laptop?
Yes. Tablets can be specified alongside phones, laptops and other devices under a portable possessions (all-risk) policy, or covered on their own. Bundling devices is sometimes better value, but not always. Compare a combined policy against separate device cover to see which suits you.
Is a cracked screen covered?
Accidental damage, including cracked screens and liquid damage, is usually included on all-risk tablet cover. There's typically an excess, sometimes a percentage of the claim value. Check the excess and any exclusions, such as cosmetic-only damage, so the cover makes sense for your device.
Does it cover my tablet outside South Africa?
Many all-risk policies extend cover while you travel, but limits and time periods vary. If you take your tablet abroad, confirm the geographic cover and any conditions, such as not leaving it unattended. Comparing policies on travel cover helps if you're often on the move.
What do I need to make a claim?
Insurers generally ask for proof of ownership, like an invoice or serial number, and a police case number for theft. Recording your tablet's serial number and keeping the receipt makes claims quicker. Check each insurer's claim process before you buy so there are no surprises.
